Has the Archival Revival Boom Changed Your Thoughts on Reselling?

Raise your hand if you parted ways with a bag that's now back on fashion's radar...

These days it seems like every time you turn around, a heritage brand is bringing back a specific bag design from its archives. There’s the Get In Touch, the Fendi Baguette, Gucci’s Jackie 1961, Diana, Horsebit 1955, and the House’s latest, the Blondie Bag; Are You an East/West Girlie?

What’s Old is New

Are You an East/West Girlie Dior Saddle Bag Louis Vuitton Forum Fendi Spy Bag that this bag could see the light of day once again. But it didn’t stop there, as Vogue The Best Bags of Paris Fashion Week Fall 2024 Bags In The Wild The Many Bags of Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales run to the resale market to find a Fendi Spy (and yes, prices have gone up a couple hundred dollars).

Out With the Old? Or…

After writing about the return of the Fendi Spy, my cousin Erica sent me a message out of sheer panic that she’d given a limited-edition Spy bag to Goodwill a bunch of years back. My jaw hit the floor, but I sympathized, as there was a time I almost gave away a Dior Saddle Pochette in a similar fashion. Back in 2012, the Get In Touch was way past its prime.

I had just graduated college and was focused on cleaning out my closet and upgrading my wardrobe. A quick eBay search showed that my Saddle Pochette, which I had purchased for $350 in 2003, was worth a mere $75. Bummer. I couldn’t bear the thought of just giving it away, so I shoved it to the back of my closet where I assumed it would remain to collect dust.

Wrong.

Louis Vuitton Forum The Many Bags Of. Big time. I was then 28 and living on my own in New York City and I pulled that little Saddle Bag out from the depths of my jam-packed closet. Not only was I excited to use it again because it was back in style, but I got a bit of a thrill from the fact that I had kept it for all those years.

Whenever I wear it and someone asks me about it I proudly tell them that it’s a vintage piece from my very own closet! Sure, I could sell it today for about $900, but I wouldn’t dream of it. I’m glad I didn’t sell her all those years ago, and I definitely think twice now about selling my bags.

Did you once part ways with a bag that’s now back in style?
