A pioneer of what has now become commonplace within the fashion world, in its 170 years in business, Louis Vuitton has introduced some of the world’s most iconic partnerships.
In the last two decades, as menswear has continued to boom, those collaborations have also quickly expanded into menswear. All of the most prolific collaborations to date have fallen under the men’s umbrella (think Supreme, Nike, and NBA), becoming an integral part of the men’s collection.
Partnerships and collaborations were at the heart of late menswear Creative Director Virgil Abloh’s creative language, something fans looked forward to each season. Now, Abloh’s successor is continuing that tradition, with Pharrell Williams LOUIS VUITTON x NBA SS21 Mens Jacket Black.
Calling on Community
For Spring 2024, Pharrell Williams calls upon fellow creative (and longtime friend) Tyler, The Creator, to conceptualize a capsule collection of his own. Speaking to the LVERS community and the creativity that comes with it, this capsule also builds upon an already existing partnership between Tyler, The Creator, and the Maison (he most recently composed the Fall 2022 Men’s Show soundtrack).
Fusing his signature poppy prep aesthetic with the distinct DNA and unique codes of Louis Vuitton, pieces from the capsule are a true extension of Pharrell Williams’ vision but with a unique spin.
Introducing Craggy Monogram
The standout from the collection is the conceptualization of a new Monogram print melding Tyler, The Creator’s iconography, and Louis Vuitton’s savoir-faire. Dubbed Craggy Monogram, the print is a pastel-colored, hand-drawn iteration of Louis Vuitton’s most important motif, rendered by the artist himself.
Said to evoke the creamy hues of a patisserie, the print features LV Flowers hidden within as well as tiny, leaping Airedale Terriers, an ode to motifs recurring in the artist’s work.
Appearing on RTW and bags alike, standout pieces include iconic small and large trunks, classic Keepalls, and new shapes like the Rush Bumbag and Envelope Messenger. These silhouettes appear alongside other bags in both Epi leather and grass-green Damier.
The collection also sees an array of novelty items like a travel chessboard with hand-sketched pieces, a golf bag, and an éclair-shaped pouch with chocolate-brown leather LV logo icing. The collection will launch worldwide on March 21st next month. More below.
