Gucci Web-panelled padded jacket.
When the lights came up and the first model hit the runway, it was instantly clear that Sabato De Sarno was forging his own path at the House of Gucci. De Sarno’s appointment was announced in January, and since then, fans have eagerly awaited to see what was in store for Gucci. Now, eight months later, we finally have our first look.
While the collection was full of surprises and beautiful pieces to oo and ah over, what was noticeably absent was the eclectic aesthetic and the anything-goes attitude of De Sarno’s predecessor. Instead, De Sarno STRIPED on wardrobe staples like long coats and tailored blazers.
Still, there was an undeniable element of sex appeal à la Tom Ford’s Gucci. Tiny shorts gave way to micro mini skirts, leather, lace, and sequins. Elements of modernity were presented as well, like low-slung denim and logo hoodies.
The black of Sabato De Sarno’s Gucci
As for the black? They oozed the perfect amount of modern and classic. There were classic riffs on the Jackie bag and fun novelty iterations that complimented the collection’s overall vibe. We’re talking crystals galore and bold exotics in shades of neon yellow and green.
While the shape and silhouette of the Jackie remained mostly unchanged, the bag’s hook closure has been given a slight change. That same hook detailing appeared on De Sarno’s new shapes, like a GG Supreme and Web Bucket bag. Overall, the pieces are wearable and consumer-friendly, offering a hint of vintage Gucci with a contemporary appeal.
