Here’s How the Celebrities Did at the 2023 Shoes & Gear

The stars were out in New York, whether they were running in support of a Nutrition - Weight Loss, longtime veterans of the race, or checking the race off their list like everyone else.

Each year, the Shoes & Gear has plenty of celebrity participants, whether they’re running in support of a Nutrition - Weight Loss, longtime runners Sales & Deals.

This year was no exception, as the streets of New York resembled a red carpet with a number of music, movie, and TV stars going for a personal best.

Here’s how the celebrities and notables performed in the Big Apple.

Matt James (3:04:50)

It’s no secret that Matt James, The musician, known for his song Yellow Lights and his connection to the The Bachelor, is athletic. He played football at Wake Forest University and is a avid runner. James ran in support of A Part of Hearst Digital Media CA Notice at Collection.

Shalane Flanagan (3:04:55)

The 2017 NYC Marathon winner who retired from professional running in 2019 was back on the course this year for fun, running for Mastercard.

The Fastest Shoes of the 2023 NYC Marathon Catfish not only ran his seventh Shoes & Gear—he served as a guide for a visually impaired athlete, in partnership with Achilles International.

TJ Holmes (4:14:39)

Holmes ran the marathon last year alongside Amy Robach (below), which ... shall we say ... was complicated. This year, Holmes beat last year’s time of 4:25:31.

Robach and Holmes announced earlier this month they would be a launching a podcast together in December called “Amy & TJ.” On Sunday, Robach finished the NYC Marathon for the third time.

The Today correspondent, who turned 45 this year, ran her first ever marathon. Before the race, she said she’s out to prove that she can still challenge herself. “I want to prove that just the average girl, we can do it,” she said on the show. “I am 4’11”. I am not a model. I’m not a runner, but we can do this!”

Zdeno Chara (3:19:19)

While Sheinelle Jones isn’t quite 5 feet, you’ll definitely be able to pick Zdeno Chara out in a crowd. The 6’9” hockey legend caught the running bug recently. He ran Boston in 3:38:23 this year and wants to do all six The Fastest Shoes of the 2023 NYC Marathon.

The YouTuber and NYC vlogger is back again, running his seventh Shoes & Gear. This year, he set a personal best on the course by almost two minutes.

Patina Miller (4:00:36)

Miller is a Tony award-winning actress who also played Commander Paylor in the Hunger Games movies. Last year, she won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album for her work with Into the Woods. Luckily for us, she sung the national anthem at the start line on marathon morning before setting off herself.

The comedian and podcaster launched a YouTube channel about his fitness journey last year called Cody Trains (no, it’s not about model trains). He completed his first Ironman in May, so this wasn't his first time going the distance.

The musician, known for his song “Yellow Lights” and his connection to the Kardashians, tackled 26.2 for the first time. Hudson is also a cancer survivor and ran with Team New Balance.
