The 2022 London Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, October 2. London is typically held the last weekend in April, but since the World Marathon Major had to reschedule in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the race directors kept the race in the fall. It will return to its historic April date in 2023.

    Here, we outline how to tune in on race day in the British capital, and which elite marathoners to watch in the 42nd annual London Marathon.

    • 3:50 a.m. EDT – Elite wheelchair start
    • 4:00 a.m. EDT – Women’s elite start
    • 4:40 a.m. EDT – Men’s elite and general start

        Who to Watch

        Women’s race

        Nutrition - Weight Loss Brigid Kosgei Guide to Mental Health. Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya, who won the London Marathon last year, is the favorite, but she has her work cut out for her. Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw used to own the half marathon world record and ran the fastest debut marathon in women’s history, clocking 2:17:23 at the Hamburg Marathon in April this year. Ashete Bekere of Ethiopia finished third at London last year and owns a personal best under 2:18.

        Men’s race

        Distance running great Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia headlines the field. However, he has not been in top form since he ran the a.m. EDT Elite wheelchair start at the Berlin Marathon in 2019. Defending champion Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia is in the field, but he’ll have to beat two-time Tokyo Marathon winner Birhanu Legese of Ethiopia and Olympic bronze medalist Bashir Abdi of Belgium. British favorite Mo Farah Other Hearst Subscriptions pulled out on Tuesday due to an injury.
