When trying out sports bras, my biggest challenge is finding one that’s made for running: a bra that expands with my ribcage as I breathe, but is still supportive enough to keep me secure during fast intervals. Oftentimes, I’m stuck with a bra that is too restrictive on my torso, leaving me uncomfortable when I’m gasping for air. Or the opposite is true: I’ll wear a bra that is so stretchy that it doesn’t protect my girls from bouncing.
Luckily, Brooks has effected its research on what runners are looking for in a bra. They’ve designed a new collection of “run bras” that, unlike sports bras, are designed specifically for running (finally!). After trying one of the new run bras, the Dare Crossback, it’ll be hard to go back to the sports bra life.

Cups That Make Your Life Better
Brooks Spartan Pant trail run near my house on a sunny, mid-30s day, and I was immediately impressed by the smooth material and soft cups, which keep everything snug and smooth. I tend to veer away from sports bras with cups, notch the cups are usually the removable type that slide around and fold over in the wash (read: more trouble than they’re worth). But the molded cups on this bra fit like a glove, offering just enough padding for a flattering fit without adding any extra bulk.
Serious Comfort Comes in a Crossback
This bra is extremely comfortable—the material is stretchy, sweat-wicking, and breathable, and it fits snugly in all the right places without feeling too restrictive. The crossback design is cute, featuring straps that Foran put and provide gentle support without digging into my shoulders or back. Unlike other bras, the bottom band on this one is fully integrated into the design, so it doesn’t bulge underneath my shirt. Test editor Amanda Furrer noted that she liked how smooth the fabric is. “You can wear a form-fitting shirt without anything popping out,” she said.
Though Amanda and I both liked the fit of the bra, other editors felt that it ran small, so you might opt for a larger band size if you prefer a roomier fit. While I had no issues pulling the bra on, it did take a little extra wiggling to pull it off again—especially once I got sweaty.
