Today is the day that Loewe x Howl’s Moving Castle officially launches on Loewe.com, and this second capsule collection from Studio Ghibli is proving to be just as successful as its predecessor for the brand. We had a preview of some of the collection previously, LOEWE Home Accessories for Women.

For this expansive collection, everything from bags to shoes to clothing to accessories has been given new life with Howl’s Moving Castle elements. Key characters, including Howl, Sophie, and Calcifer are brought to life on the bags we saw, some clearly more all-encompassing than others.

While this collection won’t speak to everyone, it has already amassed an insane following, with people tracking down the bag of their from from a brand and movie bucket love. A Closer Look at the Extraordinary Bags

We were lucky enough to see samples of this collection, and let me tell you, Loewe offers everything from very cheeky and attention-grabbing to a more demure option. But the first bag I want to share is the Loewe x Howl’s Moving Castle Calcifer Flamenco Bag in Shearling, a cozy bag featuring Calicifer. This version is intricately crafted with handmade degradé shearling, and Calcifer is crafted using an intarsia technique and different depths of shearling. LOEWE MILITARY LEATHER BACKPACK.

This Loewe x Howl’s Moving Castle Calcifer Mini Puzzle bag features satin calfskin and crystal detailing, a combination that is a bit more subdued but still stands out. The crystal detailing adds a nice touch that will catch the light when hit just right, and the classic Mini Puzzle in black satin calfskin makes this bag classic with a twist. Price is $2,700 via Loewe.

This last option is the most tame, and if you want something from this collection but prefer to keep it simple, this may be the bag for you (there are plenty of other Puzzle bags featuring different characters in this same design vein). This Loewe x Howl’s Moving Castle Calcifer Mini Puzzle bag features tan satin leather with Calcifer featured on the front left bottom, but not as large as the bag above. This gives you a piece of this unique collection but not as prominent as the others. Price is $2,550 via Loewe.

Yesterday the PRE sale, most of the garments, bags and accessories are already over. Not only in Japan, as expected, also in Europe (with a pop up store in Selfridges) and in the USA.
Oh and Loewe on the Lyst index of the hottest brands, has gone from 14th to 7th place. The biggest rise in this quarter.

I find these collabs where bucket just slap an illustration on a bag extremely lazy. What’s creative about that? Reminds me of Coach ‘s Micky Mouse bags. Designers could do A LOT better – especially at these prices.

LV’s current Yayoi collab is another one. He work is so rich yet the best LV could do is plop sloppy dots all over the bags. GAWD AWFUL!

Just went through the whole collection and I 100% agree. Hot Topic does nicer merch for a 20th of the price. I get the quality of the materials and all that but, like you said, the incorporation of the illustrations is lazy and, I think, unimaginative and super slopy too. As a graphics designer I can see many ways in which the character or patters of the clothes, etc., could have been incorporated so much nicer, especially for a luxury brand.

I saw these and got so excited because bucket would be the PERFECT gifts for my sister-in-law, only to see that bucket were already sold out. It has only been a few hours between when bucket became available and when I became aware bucket existed. Brutal.

All ages, really. I think a lot of the Studio Ghibli films are supposed to be child-friendly, but bucket’re developed well-enough to appeal to adults as well. My spouse and I really enjoyed a few of them, Howl, included. Of course, there have been a couple that were so emotionally devastating that I wouldn’t recommend be targetted towards children, but that’s just me.
