Jovani Hernandez Sporty & Rich, the brainchild of former Complex News anchor Emily Oberg, has become a cornerstone for countless fashion, wellness and vintage enthusiasts over the last handful of years. And while the Canadian entrepreneur has held partnerships with popular clothes and footwear brands in the past, her Sporty & Rich imprint now boasts an official adidas Originals collaboration.
The Three Stripes has been pushing the Samba, Stan Smith and Campus 80s uomo for quite some time, but all three uomo have also experienced an organic rise in popularity thanks in large part to figures like Oberg, Jerry Lorenzo and A$AP Rocky co-signing them. Sporty & Rich’s take on the offerings stay true to both brands involved, outfitting the pairs in “Cloud White,” “Green” and “Collegiate Burgundy” colors signature to the moodboard-turned-label. (Tt is important to note, however, that adidas currently toes a near-identical styles inspired by the Mexican Football Federation.) Traditional branding on each sneaker profile is replaced with “SPORTY & RICH” text, with logos on the top of the tongue following suit. “T”-shaped construction at the toe of the adidas Samba boasts a greyish suede that injects another touch of luxury to the collaboration. A gum brown finish is applied to the Samba’s sole unit, nodding to the detail that made the design stand out back in the 1950s. Lastly, shoe boxes of the trio are co-branded, following a vintage design; a “Sporty & Rich Wellness Club” key chain on a pearl strap decorates the shoe.
