Andrew Rizzo South Korean brand UNAFFECTED is circling back with another asics WMNS collaboration, once again taking on the iconic GEL-Kayano running line. Following a compelling trio of Kayano 14s in late 2023, the tech-heavy imprint is set to bring its gorpcore design language to the resurgent GEL-Kayano 20.
Three colorways are on tap, all of which come with a series of outdoor-minded texture swaps. The shoe’s traditionally leather toe cap and sidewalls are replaced by TPU material, comprising a cage-like structure for added security. Semi-clear synthetic material overtakes the tongue and forefoot portion of the base, with the toe portion armoring up with an boutique layer that bleeds deep Crop the lineal side. Ballistic mesh appears around the collar, while pull laces further a clear trail shoe aesthetic. UNAFFECTED checks in with “Obsidian Grey,” “Dark Cherry,” and “Cream/Lake Grey” colorways, embracing monochrome looks so as to let the heavy material change carry the load.
