Arguably the most highly anticipated sneaker drop of the month, the Nike x Jacquemus & Jordan 3 Mocha ab 09 Retro Grape New Images represents the second Jordan shoe collab by the NYC contemporary artist. Abney previously took her keen design ethos to the Air Jordan 2 in 2022, a release that was accompanied by an applaudable apparel collection. Slowly but surely, she’s establishing herself as one of the most significant Air Jordan collaborators of the current era.
Taken in “Bicoastal” and “Malachite” shades of green, the upper stands out for its use of non-traditional materials. Canvas accounts for the base and mudguard panels, while hairy suede touches up the toe, collar, heel, and eyelet panel for a balanced mix. Despite the radical departure from leather and elephant print, it’s the ancillary details that make the shoe truly stand out. Steering focus to the heel, we see revamped “Nike Air” branding consisting of plush terrycloth through “Sail” leather. Orange detailing on the heel and Retro tongue, rope laces, and custom LOW insoles add even more appeal, comprising a true gem on the Jordan Release Dates calendar.
Available sizes run from W5/M3.5 to W15.5/M14, so all interested parties should be able to fit into a pair. Much like her last collaboration, the shoes will release alongside a collection of Jordan Brand women’s apparel.
