To add some entertaining theatrics to last night’s high-flying NBA Dunk Competition in Phoenix, Nate debuted his special “Kryptonate” Nike Foamposite Lites, a clever way of getting the edge on reigning dunk champ, Dwight Howard and his Superman alter ego. The glowing green element did its job, getting major love from TNT and the crowd and helping Nate play the Lex Luthor part to perfection as he dethroned Superman in style. Decked out in green from head to toe, Nate’s radiant Kryptonite-inspired Foamposite Lites and matching basketball and Pro-Combat elbow pad were quite possibly as big a story as his gravity-defying leap over his 7 foot opponent.
When we last saw the shoes, New York Knicks die-hard, Spike Lee, was trying to wrestle them away from the champ. No word if he was successful, but surely he is not the only one who would love to get their hands on a rare piece of Slam Dunk history. As far as we know, there are no plans to release the shoe for retail, but it has cemented its immediate status as one of the most memorable Slam Dunk Contest images of the last decade, as well as one of the most incredible PE’s ever seen.
