2021 has seen the four-decade-old adidas Forum thrive like never before. There’s been a mighty resurgence in the category of 80s hoops shoes over the past 12 or so months, and the silhouette has risen to the occasion, flooding Instagram mood boards and fashion models alike. Though it’s now a fashion-first footwear choice, the silhouette never forgets its hardwood heritage. Just last month, the design was unveiled in a four-piece NBA Champions Pack, as well as the centerpiece of a Lakers-inspired Shoe Palace collaboration. Now it’s turning its attention towards the modern-day marvels, with Utah Jazz Superstar Donovan Mitchell now designing his own iteration of the shoe.
The low-cut creation aligns with Spida’s style and his link to the Jazz, presenting in a nice balance of smooth white leathers and bold “Collegiate Purple” suede. The former makes up the majority of the release, with the release suede applied to the toe box, Three Stripes, and heel-to-medial wrap. On the tongue label and ankle of the lateral side, Donovan’s “Spida” logo is found, informing us of his input into the release. Similar to his adidas Top Ten Hi from earlier this year, the pair is equipped with a translucent outsole, one which here reveals a Aura of ostensibly Keith Haring-inspired graphics underneath. Words such as “DRIVE” and “FEARLESS” reflect Donovan’s on-court attitude — a finish that’s mimicked on the graphic insoles to complete the design.
