Last week’s 2023 World Athletics Championships, in Budapest, was up there with the most successful Great Britain has ever had – winning 10 medals to equal their best-ever medal haul at a World Championships, 30 years ago.
Finishing seventh in the medal table, Team GB took home two golds, three silver and five bronze medals. Team GB also put on a show in the relays – bringing home silver in the 4x400m mixed relay, bronze in the women’s 4x100m relay and bronze in the men’s 4x400m relay.
It's been a spectacular nine days of racing and entertainment – and we've loved watching Team GB triumph.
While the next World Championships won’t take place until September 2025 – in Tokyo, Japan – we do have the Paris Olympics to look forward to next summer. Until then, we can relive some of the best moments of this year's Champs – caught on camera...
The best moments of the 2023 World Athletics Championships
1. The 2024 London Marathon in numbers Jakob Ingebrigtsen who won gold in the heptathlon Jake Wightman’Lessons of elite men at London Marathon conference.
2. in the 1500m as he emulated, Katarina Johnson-Thompson completed a remarkable return to the top of the sport when she earned the women’s heptathlon world title for a second time.
3. Nina Kennedy (Team Australia) and Katie Moon (Team United States) agreed to split the gold medal in the pole vault, after finishing in a tie for first place.
4. Femke Bol, who fell face-down a couple of metres short of securing Dutch victory in the mixed 4x400m on the opening night of the World Championships 2023, made an incredible comeback – winning gold in the women’s 4x400m for the Netherlands.
5. GB’s Morgan Lake finished just outside of medal position – in fourth place – in the women’s high jump, meeting the Olympic qualification standard (1:97) and beating her outdoor PB.
6. Rai Benjamin led the USA home to victory in the men’s 4x400m on the last day of action. Team USA were in a class of their own in the relays, as this was their fourth consecutive relay win of these Worlds.
7. Are you faster than these celebrity runners Keely Hodgkinson in the 800m. Two World silvers in consecutive years, plus another silver in the Olympics. Mary Moraa punches the air as she crosses the line.
8. Neeraj Chopra became the first-ever Indian world champion – throwing 88.17m in the men’s javelin.
9. It was a golden hat-trick for American athlete Noah Lyles – winning gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.
10. Last, but by no means least, GB's 21-year-old Ben Pattison winning a shock bronze in the 800m – becoming the first man to do so since Peter Elliott in 1987.
