Runner Karen Brewer, aged 50, was taking part in the Haldon Forest Park 10K race in Haldon Forest near Exeter at the weekend when a deer sprung out the bushes, knocking her over.

Brewer suffered bruised ribs and a bruised calf from the collison, but managed to get back up and finish first in her age category.

Talking to BBC news, Brewer said, “I heard a rustle and seconds later I was thrown into the bushes and a deer landed right on top of me.

“After I found out I was OK, I got up straight away, I didn't want to waste any precious seconds.

"I actually found it quite hilarious.”
