BMW Berlin Marathon

Date: 29stockx yeezy powerphase sale
Website: bmw-berlin-marathon.com
World record (women's): Tigist Assefa 2:11:53 (2023)
Course record (men's): Eliud Kipchoge 2:01:09 (2022)

The last few years have seen world records fall in both men's and women's marathoning, but Berlin has historically always been the home of the fastest runs. Thirteen world records have been set there since it's first running in 1974, and the list of past winners is a roll call of the greatest names in running, from Eliud Kipchoge and Haile Gebrselassie to Tegla Loroupe.

The average temperature for Berlin marathon is around 14°C while the course profile contains just 73m (241 feet) of elevation gain, making it the flattest of the six World Majors.

The ballot for 2024 has already closed but you can still get in via charity places split adidas 2019 soccer rankings chart for 2017 2:09 Events.

Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso

    Website: valenciaciudaddelrunning.com
    Course record (men's): Kelvin Kiptum 2:01:53 (2022)
    Course record (women's): Amane Beriso 2:14:58 (2022)

Valencia has seen big growth in recent years, and has rapidly become one of the big draws in the marathon calendar. And for a whole host of very good reasons: it's pancake flat, the weather is usually perfect, the beautiful city offers very reasonably priced accommodation and food, and you can relax by the sea with a cerveza afterwards.

It's always the first weekend in December so watch out imminently for the 2024 date. There's no ballot so if you plan ahead, you'll have no problem grabbing a spot.

    Zurich Seville Marathon

    Course record (men's): Asrar Abderehman, 2:04:43 (2022)
    Course record (women's): Alemu Megertu 2:18:51 (2022)

Another gloriously flat Spanish marathon (it actually bills itself as the flattest course in Europe) in an absolutely beautiful city, with wide roads, and a field size (around 9,000) that offers the big race feel without being overwhelming, Seville is perfect for PB attempts. The only drawback is the timing means all your longest weeks of training will be done in the depths of winter. But come race day, the average temperature will be a lovely 13°C. With an average of only six days of rainfall in February in Seville, you'll most likely have blue skies, too.

Like Valencia, you can simply purchase a place in Seville as long as you get in there early – there's no ballot and prices are very reasonable with the early bird price around €60.

    Adidas Manchester Marathon

    Course record (men's): Jonny Mellor 2:10:46 (2022)
    Course record (women's): Becky Briggs 2:29:06 (2022)

Of course you don't need to travel overseas. London may get headline billing as the biggest marathon in the UK, but Manchester has a good claim to be a faster course, with just 54m of elevation gain (compared with around 120m for London). It's also perfect for those who prefer a slightly less busy experience, with Manchester's wide roads allowing you to get into your pace and rhythm nicely.

With an average high temperature of 11°C, the conditions are also likely to be excellent for racing – as long as the rain stays away. All in all, it's a really well organised, well supported course that's just perfect for a crack at a spring PB.

    The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon

    Course record (men's): Wilson Kipsang 2:03:42 (2011)
    Course record (women's): Valary Aiyabei 2:19:10 (2019)

Looking for a fast, flat autumn marathon? Frankfurt – established at the same time as Berlin – offers just that. And at roughly the same size as Seville, above, it has that perfect mix of enough runners to bring atmosphere and support, but not so many that you can feel crowded. Frankfurt also has the benefit of excellent transport links and a really good organisation.

With an average finishing time of 3:57:56, it's also the fastest German marathon – faster than Berlin, where the average is over four hours. The best thing, though, about Frankfurt is the fantastic finish. The last few km wind back into the city past the Alter Oper and the Platz der Republik into the Festhalle, where you can put on your finish line sprint on the specially laid red carpet.

    Bank of America Chicago Marathon

    Website: chicagomarathon.com
    World record (men's): Kelvin Kiptum 2:00:35 (2023)
    Course record (women's): Sifan Hassan 2:13:44 (2023)

Given that 2023 saw an astonishing men's world record from Kelvin Kiptum and Sifan Hassan winning in the second fastest time in women's marathoning history, it'd be a fool who claimed Chicago isn't a fast course. One of the six World Marathon Majors, it's another pancake flat course with a super organisation and a lovely city to explore before and after.

The race has an early start, which is good as the temperatures later in the afternoon can rise to a bit above optimal. The average start temp, however, is a perfect 11°C. And before you start muttering, 'Yes but isn't it known as the "Windy City"?' Let RW educate you: the reason Chicago has the nickname "Windy City" is nothing to do with the weather. Though the area can be prone to storms at other times of year, the wind in question is thought to refer to its politicians being full of hot air...

    ABP Newport Wales Marathon

    newportwalesmarathon.co.uk
    World record (men's): Dan Nash 2:19:46 (2023)
    Course record (women's): Rebecca Gallop 2:44:07 (2021)

With a route devised by a double Olympic marathoner, Steve Brace, Newport's course takes runners through the city and out on rural roads, through medieval towns before heading back into the city again. And throughout all that, PB-chasers will be delighted to hear, it stays very, very flat. So flat that in 2023, a whopping 70% of runners reported a new PB. Now those are good odds!

The entry fee is a very reasonable £48 for early birds, rising only to £52 (or £50 if you are in a England/Scotland/NI-affiliated club, or just £42 for Welsh-affiliated ones). The weather? Well, it is Wales, so can be a touch chilly and perhaps drizzly, but while that may not make for ideal viewing conditions, it's actually pretty good for racing. Far better to be a bit nippy at the start than overheating.

    Dubai Marathon

    Course record (men's): Getaneh Molla 2:03:34 (2019)
    Course record (women's): Ruth Chepngetich 2:17:08 (2019)

After a few years of Covid then World Cup based disruption, the biggest prize purse in distance running is firmly back on the calendar. In 2008, the race famously offered a prize of one million dollars for a world record and $250,000 for first place for both the men and women. As you'd expect from that, it's certainly a fast course – and for those who pine for a bit of sunshine and warmth in the depth of the English winter, it's certainly a great time to escape. That does mean that the average temperature can hit the 20s, however, which is something to be aware of if you prefer a chillier race.

    Tokyo Marathon

Date: 3adidas employee count chart template print online
    Website: marathon.tokyo
    Course record (men's): Eliud Kipchoge, 2:02:40 (2021)
    Course record (women's): Brigid Koskei 2:16:02 (2021)

Another of the World Marathon Majors, Toyko is undeniably a superfast course (just look at the record holders above), with nippy weather conditions encouraging you to hit those fast paces. The main difficulty for most people is getting a spot – the ballot is super competitive and qualifying times are punchy (under 2hrs 32min for men, 3hrs 19mins for women – which partly reflects the fact that Toyko has far fewer female runners than men, something they are trying to change.) If you do get in, though, via ballot, time or one of the tour companies, you are in for a treat. The course is hugely well supported and the wide straight roads offer you an excellent shot at that PB.

    Schneider Electric Paris Marathon

    Course record (men's): Elisha Rotich 2:04:21 (2021)
    Course record (women's): Judith Korir 2:19:48 (2022)

Your PB might not quite qualify you for the Olympic marathon in Paris in August 2024, but you can always try and chip some time off it in the French capital in spring instead. With a course starting on the Champs-Élysées, passing the adidas condivo 14 pants mens black shoes s casual and the adidas b41580 sneakers clearance boots black, following the Seine and eventually finishing back in central Paris, it's practically a tour guide to the city. And around 50,000 other runners will push you on. Just remember that like most races in France (and elsewhere in Europe) you will requires a doctor's note to get onto the start line.
