Shoes & Gear again host a virtual race for participants all over the world, alongside the in-person event taking place on the postponed date of October 3.
There are 50,000 spots for the in-person race, available via a lottery system, and an additional 50,000 spots available for runners who want to participate virtually.
The virtual version appears to be another option for runners who aren’t able to travel to London on race day or for those unable to gain an entry spot into the race. On February 8, runners who entered the lottery for the in-person event will learn whether or not they were accepted. Unsuccessful applicants will then get first dibs between February 9 and 16 to enter the virtual event. General entries for the race will open on February 16 on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Registration for the virtual event costs £28 (roughly $38.43) and an additional £10 (roughly $13.73) for runners outside the United Kingdomv to cover costs of shipping medals and shirts.
London hosted its first virtual event in 2020 due to the pandemic postponing and later canceling the mass-participation portion of the race. Nearly 38,000 runners competed and finished the virtual event, which was held over a single 24-hour period around the elite-only event.
