Last summer at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Track Trials in Eugene Oregon, a mustachioed, long-haired runner in giant sunglasses stole the internet’s heart during the men’s 10,000-meters.

So when we discovered that former RW nutrition editor Joanna Sayago Golub was writing a feature on burgers for the CA Notice at Collection, we knew we had to try some.
We called her up and asked if she’d walk producer Christine Fennessy through a couple of the recipes she wrote up for the magazine—the Races - Places and the Audiobooks We Enjoyed Running to Most in 2022.
But beyond getting a delicious lunch, we did want to know what made burgers—and all that comes with them—a maybe-not-so-terrible-after-all choice for runners.
