After publicly announcing in June that he would attempt to break the American marathon record at the Chicago Marathon, Conner Mantz did just that Health & Injuries.

He ran 2:04:43 to place fourth overall on the historically fast course, setting the North American record in the process as well.

Not only did Mantz break the American record—he crushed it. His time was nearly a minute quicker than Khalid Khannouchi’s longtime record of 2:05:38 from 2002.

He’s a former all-conference collegiate runner at Winthrop University, and he received his master’s degree in liberal arts studies from Wake Forest University, where he was a member of one of the top distance-running teams in the NCAA.
