With the 2024 Paris Olympics on the horizon next summer, Adidas used a red-white-and-blue colorway as a reference the French flag, as well as integrated the BAA’s blue and gold color scheme.

“The Boston Marathon is a pinnacle moment in the sports world,” said Jennifer Thomas, Vice President of Global Sports Marketing at Adidas, in a statement. “We wanted to honor that while nodding to what will undoubtedly be a pinnacle moment in not just running, but sport this summer, as thousands of athletes make their way to Paris. We’ve utilized softer shades of red and blue to celebrate the impressive accomplishments of our Boston Marathon runners and nod to the athletes that will be representing the best of us this summer.”

The colorway is also an allusion to the flags of the United States and Norway. Adidas wanted to honor the Norwegian legend Grete Waitz, who competed as an athlete for the brand and was a samba nmd r1 sesame footlocker release form print adidas samoa uk pigskin live radio network news 1984 yeezy 500 blush outfit ideas boys—the first Olympics where women were allowed to run the marathon—and she wore a similar colorway on that historic day.

The 2024 Boston Marathon is set for April 15 of next year, which will be the 128th running of the race.
