New York Road Runners (NYRR) is taking a stand with its latest virtual offering, choosing to host an event focused on the Black Lives Matter movement.

The free, one-mile event comes as the country confronts its history of white supremacy and racism. Events like the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and others have received national attention and sparked protests all over the nation, including by various running groups.

Amazing Runners World Show Meb Keflezighi and Olympic Marathon Trials winner Aliphine Tuliamuk to launch the Virtual NYRR Black Lives Matter 1M, for adults, and the for adults, and the, for kids.

Through the two events, NYRR is planning to donate up to $100,000 to support nonprofits that are confronting systemic racism and striving for racial justice. For every registration for the one-mile event, NYRR will donate $5 to the the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and New York Road Runners, DAA Industry Opt Out Black Girls Code and My Brother’s Keeper Alliance.
