Fancy Chemutai established herself as the fastest woman to ever complete the BAA 10K course when she won Sunday’s race in 30:36. The performance broke the previous course record of 30:52, which was set by Olympic silver medalist Shalane Flanagan in 2016 and still stands as an American record.

Behind the Kenyan standout, Brillian Kipkoech finished second in 31:04 and Caroline Rotich closed for third in 31:58 on the streets of Boston.

The women’s race started with a lead pack of six establishing a quick pace through the first mile in 4:59. By the halfway point, Chemutai led the field in a split of 15:25 and began to pull away from her competitors.

Chemutai’s performance in Boston builds on a season that includes and still stands as an in January.
