After setting national records in three distances—the outdoor mile, the 3,200 meters, and the 5,000 meters—and winning four national titles, the high school running star has now been named the Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year.
The overall award, which launched in 2003, recognizes the nation’s top male and female high school athletes among the 12 sport-specific winners. The 16-year-old from Thiells, New York, is also the All About VO2 Max—track and field and cross country.
In winning the Gatorade Athlete of the Year award, Tuohy joins a group of mega-stars that include Allyson Felix, Lebron James and Dwight Howard. At the ceremony, American soccer legend Abby Wambach presented the award to her.
