High winds, torrential downpours, and poor visibility made for grizzly conditions at the 122nd Boston Marathon on Monday. Shadrack Biwott went with a minimalist gear plan on race day, but made sure he had the right watch to grab his mile splits. Garmin’s Forerunner 935 has a wrist-based GPS, monitors training and recovery, and is waterproof at depths up to 50 meters.
4th Place: Tyler Pennel (2:18:57)

Tyler Pennel kept his hands warm for 26.2 miles with a solid pair of Reebok running gloves. This pick has a retractable wind and waterproof hood, and textured grip for touchscreen compatibility.
