When I raced Boston and London last April, I suffered from horrible underarm chafing despite lathering on Aquaphor from the mini-tube I stored in my shorts pocket. While I still don’t fully understand the quarter-zip (is it a shirt or a thin jacket?) I’m beginning to see its allure. This Adidas top, for instance, is perfect when you want more airflow on your chest. All you need is to zip down. And when the wind picks up? You zip up! The collar has just enough coverage around your neck to shield from early winter’s chill.
Joggers have so many uses; from working out to lounging, they’re also great for warming up pre-race. At the Sydney Marathon, I had to wake up at 3:45 a.m. to catch public transit on the way to the start. In times like that, a comfy, fleecy pair of sweats is essential.
