Black toenails are sometimes seen as a badge of honor among runners. But, our test staff knows that the easiest way to prevent them from occurring is to go up a half size in your running shoes. Test editor Amanda Furrer learned that not all size 6.5 shoes fit the same, and even if the length seems right, toe box shape can have a big impact over 26.2 miles.
