Fabric That Feels Like a Second Skin

When I put on the Tracksmith Turnover Tights, I was kind of nervous about how thin and free they felt; I’ve always preferred tights that were super snug. The Turnover is light and very stretchy, so the fabric just melts into your skin. The seams are bonded, which means they are flat so you don’t feel them.

The fabric is luxuriously soft. They are made using Tracksmith’s Italian-sourced micro-nylon they call Inverno Blend. It is lightweight and feels like fleece against your skin without the bulk of traditional fleece. The outside has a sleek sheen and is silky soft to the touch.

I was worried that with all of this thin, soft, stretchy fabric that these tights would fall down or sag in the thighs and crotch—but they didn’t. The tights fit above my hip bones and below my navel with a snug but not tight waistband that stayed in place through dynamic warmups of lunges, leg swings, and high knees on my runs.

An elastic band keeps the tights from slipping down your hips and waist.

Verdict: You’ll Stay Warm Without Overheating

Because I don’t tolerate the cold as well as most of my running partners, I like to run in tights once the temperature dips below 50. I enjoyed running in these tights whether it was 50 or 30. I didn’t get overheated on warmer days and they kept my legs warm on the cooler, windier days. I think most runners would feel warm in these tights in temperatures well below freezing.

Second Opinion: Where the Turnover Tights really shine is comfort. The pair I tried were a large, a size up from what I usually wear, which undoubtedly helped with that constricting feeling that often comes with tights. Everything about the feel the tights—the fit, stretchiness, and softness of the fabric—is fantastic.

These tights aren’t my first choice for a run in low temperatures, despite the amazing comfort—they’re just too thin. But here’s the thing: For the first time, I actually felt somewhat cool and stylish wearing tights. Bottom line, if you’re looking for a pair of running tights that will hold up in style and comfort after you stop the watch, the Tracksmith Turnover Tights are the perfect choice. —Jacob Meschke
