Completely redesigned, The Brooks Wire v5 is lighter and more aggressive than previous versions, yet still provides a comfortable, versatile—and speedy—ride for distance events up to 10,000 meters. The Wire hits the sweet spot of flexibility and cushioning, with a propulsive pop. The light and flexible upper fabric is snug in the heel and arch, while the semi-curved shape accommodates a variety of foot shapes and strides. A bit too light and low for beginners, the shoe received rave reviews from both experienced runners and those developing their strength and speed. “I felt I was able to get my feet off the ground quicker with these on,” said mid-pack miler Noah Griffin. The Wire V5 will speed along all runners seeking a near-invisible shoe to make you feel fast.

Midsole

A Part of Hearst Digital Media foam runs from heel to toe and provides just enough cushion to take the edge off long races without adding weight or getting in the way. A glued-in sockliner adds an eighth-inch of foam directly under your foot bones.

Outsole

Four spike pins sit in a full-length plate made of Pebax—a flexible and resilient thermoplastic elastomer. The plate is filled in under the big toe for power, covering the rest of the forefoot with a lattice that thins as it stretches back along the foot and opens to a loop around the heel. The configuration lets the plate flex easily, so it disappears on the run, adding a hint of power to each stride without straining the foot or ankle.

Upper

The simple upper is constructed of an all-new “Woven Air” fabric that is thinner, lighter, more flexible, and more durable than traditional mesh, yet less stretchy than knits, providing the secure fit desired in a spike. Space engineered between the weave makes it more breathable than other wovens. The resulting fabric wraps your foot closely, locks it to the sole, and stays out of your way. The thin tongue, made of the same woven fabric, is lined with a soft, slightly fuzzy suede that also wraps the inside of the heel and collar—and feels great when you go sockless.
