Thanks to 15 years of running, Diane Gonzalez is able to avoid the high blood pressure and cholesterol medications that the rest of her family must take. The Health - Injuries were too great not to share. So Gonzalez, a middle and high school teacher of the deaf, recently recruited her best friend and fellow teacher, Kristen Cotter—who’s 13 years her junior—as her #GetSomeoneRunning partner.
To prepare Cotter to race in a school-sponsored 5K this fall, the friends meet on a local Buffalo, New York, bike path three days a week. They walk, then walk at Gonzalez’s pace (faster!), then run and repeat—covering about four miles for each session.
Cotter’s preferred method of exercise is dance. While she loves spending time with Gonzalez, she admits that she has yet to fall head over heels for the running aspect of their recent bonding venture. Regardless, she keeps Gonzalez entertained throughout training, uttering things like, “You’re killing me” and, “Fart-what?”
Health - Injuries.
