With a reasonably expansive bag collection, sometimes I only contemplate adding another to fill a void of a specific trend or style I don’t currently own. When I noticed the beaded bag trend owned a comeback, which has been happening for a few years but has really started to become a real stand-alone trend versus a one-off, I realized this might be the novelty bag I am looking for.
Of course, a beaded bag feels more artsy than other bags, but this novelty bag can be done in a way that feels just as classic as it does trendy. My pick varies from the exquisite and personal favorite, Ralph Lauren Wellington, crafted with all-over beads, to the Staud Tommy with the beach vibes ideal for spring and summer break.
Beads and Beyond
When it comes to a more trendy bag, I like that I can use it as the standout item of my outfit or decide to mix and match patterns and colors to make more of a statement. This trend will be one to watch for the warm seasons ahead, and you might want to nab something to add to your collection, too!
This idea is a big no for me…I don’t really like the look and the fragility aspect is also a negative.
Beaded bags are beautiful to look at but impractical to use. I recently sold my Susan Alexandra Ma Cherie. Even though I still think it’s cute and received many compliments when I wore it, I was always worried about having an open bag, and it felt awkward and clunky to carry. I had hoped it would make a cute travel bag as well, but I didn’t take it on a single vacation because I was worried about ruining its shape by packing it.
I ordered a Staud Tommy in 2021 and the quality left a lot to be desired. I wound up returning it because there was glue residue inside the bag and beads were already coming loose in the box. If you want the look, vintage beaded bags are the way to go.
Micro Cross Body Bag
I really like the Staud Tommy bag, but like some other commenters, the beading and fragile nature sort of freak me out. I ended up buying a similar bag from America & Beyond for like 1/3 of the price of the Staud and I love the size and detail, but yeah, totally agree that losing a bead is a heartbreaker. So far, so good though!
i feel like people saying they’re fragile & impractical haven’t used the staud beaded bags. i’ve beat my tommys up and haven’t lost a single bead.
