The Marc Jacobs Stam. The infamous it-bag was released in 2005 and quickly gained momentum in the fashion world. Named after trimmed Jessica Stam, the popular bag was and maybe still is considered the classic Marc Jacobs handbag. Despite not being in production for five years, I still correlate the Stam with the brand. The quilted leather, kiss lock closure, and chunky hardware made this bag extremely eye catching. In addition to dual rolled handles, it also included a chain shoulder strap, making it versatile for the wearer.
The Stam was released at the height of Marc Jacobs popularity, and in my opinion it represents the golden age for the brand. True to its it-bag notoriety, the Stam had a loyal following of fashion insiders and celebrities and a waitlist so long that it stopped taking names. Before being discontinued (much to my dismay) in 2013, it was released in an array of limited editions, a few favorites of mine being exotics, sequins, and studded leather.

Although many consider it dated, I find myself browsing the pre-owned market for Stams regularly, and am very tempted to pull the trigger on it.
I personally think that out of all the it-bags of the past, the Stam is the one that best stands the test of time. I have always been a sucker for quilted leather, and I think it adds a timeless, classic element to the design. Honestly this bag still has the ability to make my heart skip a beat, and I find myself lusting for it even now, 13 years after its release.
I whistfully remember Unboxing that black STAM. That moment I took it out and gazed upon it was pure Euphoria! It was the most beautiful bag. Totally worth toting the 7 lb heft (empty)!! Lol
I remember lusting over the Stam and it still makes my heart skip a beat when I see it. Now they’re on the resale market for a fraction of the price and am I’m seriously contemplating getting a mini. Does anyone still wear their Stam?
I actually just pulled the trigger and bought one from The Real Real! I have been carrying it nonstop ever since and I LOVE it. It doesn’t feel dated to me, I don’t think my non-purse lover friends know how old it is!
I use my mini on nights out. I always get at least one complement. It doesn’t hold much. I can get my lipstick, phone, keys, key punch, lipstick, and a small mirror. Definitely not an everyday bag for me.
The Stam was my very first premier designer purchase!! I bought it with my very first bonus and it holds such a special place in my heart. I personally don’t think it looks dated and am planning on bringing it out again…
I always have a soft spot for Marc Jacobs. Its the Stella for me. I’m so lucky I was able to score a NWT zip clutch two year ago. That wallet is old but the previous owner never get to use it and now it’s mine. I can’t believe I’m that lucky. I’m still waiting for one in cucumber in a nice condition to pop up one day.
I was in college when the stam was released and was too poor to afford it. When I started working, its one of the bags I bought. I’ve bought 4 so far two large, one mini and one medium. I find that large has been too big and heavy though its so beautiful especially quilted in lamb leather/ gold hardware. Even though its been discontinued for a while now, I still think its timeless and it will always be one of Marc Jacob’s best bag creation.

About 6 months ago, I bought the small (mini) version of this bag. It is stunning. Even though it’s small, it’s still quite heavy which is due to the chain.
For the last year or so, I’ve just been purchasing bags that I missed out on-Jimmy Choo Tulita, Marc Jacobs Stam, Miu Miu Vitello Bow Bag, and. Christian Dior Double Saddle Bag. Next on my list are the Chloé Paddington, the small Fendi Spy Nag, and the Celine Boogie bag.
I pulled mine out last week. It has been sitting in the dust back for years. Carrying it now. So funny this came up.
I’ve bought and sold a few Stams over the years. I think it’s still a classic-it’s the only MJ bag I would ever re-purchase. I’m not a excite of any of his other bags except maybe the multi pocket hobo in the large size.

ok so yes it could come back i hate the fact that at the time coach really made bags to look like it and that hardware elements did make it into the Louis Vuitton line …….. the manhattan and other bags had jacobs DNA but were not pure vuittton nor jacobs. this said I have purchased many bags that i wanted at the time such as eye multicolor bags and so on….. O AND ONE LITTLE TINY DETAIL….. I DONT BELIVE IN THE TERM DATED.. I FIGURE IF I LOVE IT THAT IS PERFECT BUY IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of “old school” Marc Jacobs… the bag I most regret NOT purchasing is the Stella. To this day I see it in older movies and pictures and I get sad. It’s the darnedest thing, because it’s just a BAG… but for me I think it’d have bene functional forever.
Your Marc Jacobs Stam is my Chloe Paddington… I couldn’t afford the Paddington in its heyday and purchased one second hand for a fraction of the price a few years ago. Some people just don’t get it 🙂
I’m not trying to be mean, because everyone has different tastes and no one’s is more valid than the other, but I find this bag to be extremely unattractive.
