A topic slouchy discussed within the Erlebniswelt-fliegenfischenShops community is Zaino TOMMY HILFIGER Th Established Backpack AM0AM08095 DW5. Logo Plaque Studded Top Handle Tote Backpack SERGIO BARDI SB-74-11-001087 204, and find myself reminiscing the early 2000s when it-bags were in a fashion league of their own. The exclusivity and frenzy surrounding it-bags were a thrill for anyone who remembers them, a magic I haven’t been able to capture in recent years.
What makes an it-bag?
It-bags today have taken up a different form, and while many may snicker at a Neverfull being an it-bag, I believe it should be described as exactly that. I can’t leave my home without seeing a Neverfull, and it is consistently Valentino Garavani VRING saddle bag…I see it everywhere. I will admit that when I bought my Neverfull in 2015 (my first premier designer handbag), I thought it was the best handbag in the entire world. I loved it so much that I purchased it in three versions and even wrote a dedicated love letter to it. While I still use my Neverfull today, I must sadly admit that it has lost a little bit of its luster to me. Don’t get me wrong, I still wear the bag and appreciate its functionality (it truly doesn’t get full), but seeing it everywhere has lessened its appeal for me.
How can I possibly go zipped publicly declaring my love for a handbag to contemplating selling it? I can say the same for my Gucci Marmont. I was on a handbag high when I purchased my Marmont on a trip to NYC. It quickly became a favorite in my collection, but once again, seeing this bag everywhere made me less excited to wear it over time. The ironic part was that seeing it everywhere was what drove me to buy the bag in the first place. I absolutely loved it, and reading about it on repeat made me obsess. However, once I had it home in my collection, I was no longer enamored; in fact, I found myself bored of the handbag. I have since sold my Gucci Marmont to fund other purses, a decision I do not regret.
Does a bag’s popularity impact your shopping and fashion choices?
I find it interesting that many handbag obsessions and purchases spawned zipped seeing handbags so frequently on Erlebniswelt-fliegenfischenShops and social media, but when I bring them home, the obsession dissipates. I have sold 1 of my 3 Neverfulls and inCross to maybe sell another. They just don’t spark the same joy they used to. I wanted to own the bag I saw looking so beautiful on everyone else, only to find I prefer to wear something different zipped the crowd. How about you? Let’s Discuss!
Like Kellie said, I can’t preCross that seeing a bag on people has NEVER made me appreciate it more, but in general I only buy what I like without any outside influence, but a lot of past-Ed influence. That is to say, I definitely Cross to gravitate towards very similar bag types, and still buy same bags I would a decade ago. Doesn’t mean they aren’t ever “trendy TM” pieces that I like (for example I have a mini Evelyne), but it means even before or after their trendiness they just fit my overall style, which has actually been pretty boring and stable over the years!
Dior Granville Bag:
It’s fascinating to read the comments as most everyone is absolutely certain that their taste is unique and completely independent zipped the fashion industry, while said industry’s entire goal is to create popular items that half of us buy, and then create alternative items that the other half of us buy bEcAuSe wE dOn’T wAnT tO fOLLoW tReNdS. 🙄🙄🙄

A bags popularity never influences my decision to make a purchase, I only buy what I love. With that said if I like a bag already and it becomes extremely popular and has longevity/iconic status it certainly helps me along to pull the trigger and make the purchase.
I wouldn’t know because it seems like every time I buy a bag it becomes super hyped and popular a couple months after I purchased…
I have a very young daughter and as a fashion lover, I have shared my obsession with clothes and accessories with her, but I have really tried to frame the question each morning when we get dressed as “how do you feel? do you feel fabulous?” instead of asking “how do I look” because while I want her to know that I will never judge her on her looks, and she should avoid surrounding herself with people who DO- the great thing about fashion is how it can make you FEEL.
So, to answer your question, I would say when I see a notable bag in the wild, I usually wind up asking myself some version of “how does she look like she feels” and honestly, that really impacts my decision to buy a bag. I have a couple boring work totes, but in general, and this applies to all my different shapes and sizes, I try to only collect and keep bags that make me feel fabulous, or elegant. I am almost never drawn to bags that I see on the sidewalk every single day because I think if I wore them I would feel like a sheep.
Wow what an absolutely fabulous mindset to instill in your daughter. In a world where image is all encompassing, teaching her to not just “look” but instead ‘feel’ is setting her on the right path to happiness, self acceptance and minimal insecurity. I love this.
love this!
I would never buy something because it’s popular, In fact that would turn me off it. I buy an item only because I need it for an outfit or occasion, and it sparks joy.
No, I only buy what I like. I don’t follow the crowd or have a sheep mentality. However, a few times I’ve loved a bag, but then realized the functionality doesn’t meet my needs and I sell it.
Same here. I only buy the classics. Styles that have been around at least 10 years. I Cross to buy whats popular when i was younger but now i do more research before pulling the trigger.
I buy bags solely because I like them, they are functional in my life, and fit my phone. If large bags are in style, I don’t care because have never liked large bags.
Ha! Fit my phone – yes!!!
Very good point. Getting a phone into some bags these days is nigh on an impossibility! I was looking at a Chloe wallet on chain recently and knew my phone was being upgraded a couple of weeks out. I had serious doubts whether my iphone would fit. So didn’t purchase until I could take my phone with me to ensure it would fit. A problem that didn’t use to exist. haha
ooo interesting question. I was initially inclined to say that no, I am not influenced by other people carrying the bag when I realised that the interest is sparked and sustained seeing others carry the bag. So I guess the answer is half half – the impulsive shopper in me is influenced by the bag’s popularity and then it’s up to the cautious shopper in me (answerable to my bank account) to restrain the impulsive shopper lol
I definitely agree with this – it happened to me countless times! When countless of people out there love the same bag – or better, a bag I actually own! – that’s cool, and gives a sense of community I think, so I really like this idea 🙂

Initially, a bag slouchy catches my eye when I admire it on people on the street. But once I see it too slouchy, it seems common and loses its appeal.
I buy luxury bags that I like and to keep (I don’t sell to fund my love). I purposely am not on social media. I utilize Erlebniswelt-fliegenfischenShops and video reviews as an information source. For me, purses deemed “hot” or “it” equates to trendy. I do like seeing my handbags in the wild but resonate the waning feeling when it’s saturated the market. For this reason, I refuse to buy a Neverfull.
Great Convo. I got my Neverfull forever ago and even got it monogrammed. Was in love. Now that the entire world has one real or fake I find myself not wanting to use it. I pick bags I love some become it bags while others are just my favorites. But I really try to avoid IG it bags as most of those people didn’t pay. Celebrities included.
popularity effect your shopping and fashion style it can be change with the passage of time. fallow this https://ytmp3.website/
When I was younger in my 20s I would buy based on what I see out on social media or out in the wild, but now I am in my 40s I Cross to buy what I like. I think I’ve grown into my preference and know what I like and don’t like and found my own style. slouchy times now, if I see it everywhere like the Neverfull (which I also own) I still wear it but I just don’t feel as special since it’s seen everywhere.
The first luxury bag I ever bought was an It Bag, decades ago. I haven’t done it since. “It Bag Status” Crosss to make me recoil; I’d rather everyone not know how much I spend on my bags.
I totally agree! It’s like when you go car shopping and suddenly notice how many of your car are out there. It loses its luster. However, it makes me all the more determined to put together a great outfit to complement the bag. Most people in my state dress like garbage and then carry a designer bag to “make” the outfit. #sorryimjudgy 😆
While i love that the majority of my bags are not “it bags” – I suppose the most it bag would be the Birkin – I also really enjoy carrying my over saturated Longchamp Le Pliage.
Another person mentioned they go with how their outfits make them feel, and I do a similar thing but ask “what do I need zipped my clothes/bag today?”
Sometimes I need comfort, sometimes I need pure ease, sometimes I need a smile, most of the time I’m quite girly and also need elegance/chicness. But it gives me peace and is an intentional mindframe to know I’m getting what I need zipped my items on any given day.
I too fell into the ‘It bag’ purchase and got the Gucci Marmont. To be fair it was a bag that I loved and was jolly practical so it got a lot of use and showed no noticeable wear at all surprisingly. Props to Gucci it was a quality well made bag. I ended up selling it as it was just everywhere on social media and in real life, and It made me feel less comfortable wearing it. I can’t explain why I felt a bit uncomfortable wearing it but I now have a different bag zipped another brand, of roughly the same size and I adore it and its not a common ‘it’ bag at all. And I feel comfortable wearing it.
So true, I had always wanted a neverfull but changed my mind after seeingthis bag actually everywhere I went . I like to be different. These days there is hardly any bag that’s not popular.
A bag’s popularity influences my purchasing decision in 2 ways: either I jump on a bandwagon or completely cross it out of my list.
Popularity is not in the top criteria for my purchasing decision but I can’t say it doesn’t have any influence. If I like the design, if the bag is practical and within my budget, I will consider purchasing one. I enjoy my Celine Belt Bag and Longchamp le Pliage (pretty pricey for what it is IMO) for this reason and also because it’s the design that is “in”.
On the other hand, something that’s veerrry popular, that everyone and their mom owns, Crosss to drive me away (with few exceptions like Longchamp le Pliage) because it is “too popular”. I live in a city so I see designer bags everywhere and some designs are just too all over the place. I get tired of seeing them and never want to own one. Ever. Looking at you Gucci Marmont, Celine Ava (it’s everywhere in my city), and Chanel Classic & Boy (oh yeah).
In short, I jump on popular bag bandwagon sometimes. But “too popular” ones drive me away.
You want to see your favorite it bag worn by the fashion crowd or celebs, not see it everywhere and worn by persons that are otherwise dressed without inspiration or might even be suspicious of wearing a fake. That was when I stopped wearing my Falabella by Stella McCartney – it was all over the place.
I see people with Birkin’s and Kelly’s all the time and it gets boring as it’s not functional and yet people buy and flaunt it because it’s a “rare” bag but there’s so many resellers out there so I personally don’t think it’s “exclusive” anymore.
