Late last week, Louis Vuitton headed to Hong Kong for Pharrell’s sophomore menswear collection, and two presentations in, it’s clear that Parrell is a fashion force to be reckoned with.
The show, which embraced thematic elements of surf and sun, marked the first Men’s Pre-Fall show for the Maison. Melding multicultural influences, it is said to represent the core values that bind humankind together—from Hawaii to Hong Kong and everywhere in between.
The Connectivity of Travel
The collection builds on codes established during Pharrell’s inaugural collection, focusing on the idea that clothes convey energy and that multicultural influences can be found in a wardrobe’s most basic necessities.
The presentation set the stage for the pieces to walk down the runway. Taking place at night along Hong Kong’s Avenue of Stars on the Victoria Harbour, panoramic views give way to an epicenter of cultural exchange, which has welcomed travelers since the 15th century.

Growing up close to the water has been a grounding force for Pharrell Williams and a constant source of inspiration, perfectly aligning with Louis Vuitton’s roots in travel. Very literal nods to surf culture are present throughout, from the sand-lined runway to the surfboards carried by models.
As for the bags, Pharrell continues to focus on revamping the iconic Speedy bag, which is present throughout in various iterations. From oversized Damier to Damier Denim, embellished Monogram, and more, Parrell also introduces the new Surfing Monogram this season.
So clearly inspired by Hawaiian scenery, the motif comes in four colorways and appears on various bag silhouettes.

I really liked the little Speedy bags. They were cute. And the little yellow crab charm was adorable.
The problem with the new speedy design is that the strap is not supported by leather strips like the speedy B so it’s going to fold in on itself unless you use an organizer.
