Editor’s Note: When we first published this article, we stated that Hermès would increase U.S. prices by 10% to offset the new tariff. However, it’s important to note that the 10% tariff applies to the declared import value of goods—figures that are not typically disclosed publicly. As such, the actual impact on retail prices may vary. We have updated the article to reflect this nuance more clearly.
On January 6th, Hermès kicked off 2025 with a price increase for many markets, with the U.S. seeing an average rise of 7%. The timing aligned with expectations, as annual adjustments are typical for the brand. On April 17th, Hermès confirmed plans to raise prices in the U.S., effective May 1st, citing recently imposed tariffs as the reason for the adjustment. The price adjustment follows new import tariffs on luxury goods entering the U.S.
WWD and other outlets reported the news. Head of investor relations for the brand, Carole Dupont-Pietri, shared with WWD, “The increase of price will be across all the different metiers.” This increase is only slated to affect the US market, with Dupont-Pietri further sharing, “It’s aimed at offsetting the increase in tariffs that only applies to the American market, so there won’t be price increases in the other regions.”

New Hermès 2025 Prices Starting May 1st
Some analysts had speculated that the luxury sector’s high margins might allow brands to absorb tariff-related costs. However, Hermès has clarified that it will pass the additional 10% cost on to consumers rather than absorbing it internally.
The declared value of each item at import is a key factor in determining the tariff amount. While estimates suggest this value could be approximately 20-30% of the retail price, the exact percentage may vary depending on the item and its classification under U.S. Customs regulations.
The new prices, effective May 1st, will reflect the impact of the 10% import tariff. However, the specific declared values used for tariff calculations are not typically disclosed publicly, making it challenging to ascertain the exact basis for these price adjustments.
The increase will apply across the board, impacting all items sold in Hermès U.S. boutiques. Below, we share a chart with current confirmed prices and the highest potential price that could be passed onto the consumer (10%). Keep in mind, we will wait to see what Hermès decides to do with a declared value, which will impact the new retail price of each item.

And if the tariffs are reduced or eliminated, will Hermes U.S. prices have a commensurate decrease? Highly unlikely.

Hermes didn’t put the tariffs (tax) on their products and they aren’t the ones who receive the money from the tariffs – the US government is the one who collects this tax. It is a tax on consumers. If the US government removes or reduces the tax then the price will reduce. Don’t blame Hermes for this *show!
When was the last time Hermes reduced prices on their bags?
Totally agree. The people that can afford Hermes can afford the tariff increase I’m sure.
I doubt the tariffs will be reduced or eliminated as 10% is not substantial in the bigger picture. But if it is reduced or eliminated, perhaps they will not have their annual increase in 2026?

I work in the shipping industry and when ocean container costs increased dramatically during COVID and luxury prices increased dramatically as a result it was understandable at the time, did the prices decrease when the container prices dropped? No! I really think luxury companies can absorb the 10%, should absorb the 10%, greed! Unfortunately my love for fashion keeps me paying these crazy prices.
Why on earth should they have to absorb anything in this case? None of this cluster* is their fault. (Speaking only to the current situation, not regular price increases.) Also tariffs appear and disappear and then appear again with startling rapidity. No one could possibly be changing a whole price schedule every time.
I honestly don’t even believe it. Clearly, there’s a misunderstanding here: Tariffs means on the imported goods declared value. Normally in Hermes or Chanel, that’s only 20-30% of the actual retail piece. So it will be less than 2% of the retail price if they raise 10% tariff.
Yes, I amended the article to make this clearer. The issue is that we have no idea what Hermès declares as the value of its products, which is tbd with the new prices that will take effect May 1st!
All made in China! I feel like I have been westing my money for years and being lied……WTF 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Luxury is delusional……
Chinese propaganda! You are seriously delusional or doesnt own any Hermes if you believe this. Hermes is very transparent where their products are made.
I only own 14 piece bags, 4 wallets, some jewellery, home wears, some clothes and shoes from Hermes. Noticed that some cow horns are made in Vietnam 🇻🇳 the other day.
Hermes does adhere to the Origine France Garantie, which is an independent certifying group who issues their certifications to companies where all transformative steps are made in French, and a minimum of 50% of all materials originates in France.
They are surprisingly honest about sourcing internationally – the horn jewelry is made in Vietnam, and scarves are hemmed in Mauritius.
Hermes’ customers can afford to help bring the deficit down.
It would be true if Congress wasn’t about to give the same folks a giant tax cut while also cutting public services for the rest of the country.
This wouldn’t even make up for the tax cuts they’re about to get.
Another excuse to raise prices. I stopped buying expensive brands. Lower-priced brands work just as well, or even better. No need to joy about a scratch here and there.
Hey, I honestly don’t even believe it. Clearly, there’s a misunderstanding here: Tariffs means on the imported goods declared value. Normally in Hermes or Chanel, that’s only 20-30% of the actual retail piece. So it will be less than 2% of the retail price if they raise 10% tariff. NOT 10% of the Retail if that make sense. Would Hermes does that? I feel like social media would be part of the bad guy here to misleading customers and actually made company like Hermes to fool people.
USA is finally just keeping the tariff field equal. Why must you cause issues with your public complaints. Herme’s can certainly afford to absorb the TARIFF.

@Erlebniswelt-fliegenfischenShops, please tell me you are going to blog about Chinese manufacturers on TikTok spilling the beans on where luxury goods are really made?? It’s got purse world talking!!
I’ve seen all of those videos – the problem is, those are not the actual manufacturers of those products. I think there is a lot of confusion right now and it is really setting off the luxury world- I will cover it!
Are these videos perhaps being posted by manufacturers of the super fakes?
I agree with this. People have seen these videos without any evidence, contracts or anything to show they actually make bags for these brands and have believed them. It is incredible how people easily believe things posted on social media.
thats also part of high end brands marketing strategy too. 😜
I’m glad I got my Hermès fix outta the way! I’ll be content with my birkin cargo and Hac 40.
Regardless people will purchase high end items. I go the nicely used or bootleg anyway so it matters nothing to me and I can still buy my eggs.
I wonder why the Birkin 35 cm doesn’t see any price increases? Is it because it’s not as popular as the 25 and 30 cm?
