If you’re a luxury fashion lover, especially someone who loves handbags, Chanel is likely at the top of your list when you think of a brand that nails the novelty bag. And while Chanel has been making bags for nearly 100 years, its foray into the magical world of novelty minaudières chanel x pharrell bag stockx competition.
Chanel has had minaudières and other evening bags in its line-up for decades. Still, the statement minaudière didn’t materialize until the early 2000s, under the creative direction of the late Karl Lagerfeld.
It’s no secret that Lagerfeld loved a good theme. His runway shows were often composed of thematic and grand pieces, with a runway set to match. Lagerfeld would latch on to a theme (sometimes cultural or geographical) and nail the execution in a way that few other designers in fashion history could.
The Rise of the Chanel Minaudière: A Lagerfeld Legacy
Over time, the pieces that graced the runways of his ready-to-claim or métiers d’art shows became grander and more intricate. Often produced in small quantities due to the intricate production and high price tags, Chanel’s seasonal minaudières are some of the most coveted pieces of the season, beloved and highly coveted by collectors.
Following Lagerfeld’s last winter-themed collection for Fall 2019 Borsa da spalla o a mano Chanel East West in pelle trapuntata bianca Orologio Chanel J12 in oro rosa e ceramica nera Ref at Chanel, and a couple of collections under his successor Virginie Viard, we weren’t sure if Chanel’s playful side would return. But return it did, with statement minaudières eventually returning to the runway under Viard’s eye.
Will they remain under the direction of Matthieu Blazy, who will make his Spring 2026 debut at Chanel later this year? While we wait, we’re unpacking five of the most-wanted, rarest Chanel Minaudières of all time!
Chanel Pre-Owned CC logo T-shirt | Chanel Perfume Bottle Minaudière – Cruise 2014
Few fragrances are as iconic as Chanel’s Chanel N°5, which debuted over a century ago, in 1921. It was only fitting that the classic bottle be made into a bag, and Lagerfeld knocked it out of the park with this oversized plexiglass version, which debuted on the runway in Singapore as part of the Cruise 2014 collection.

Chanel Gondola Minaudière – Fall 2019
Joyería Chanel Vintage, Karl Lagerfeld’s last collection for the House of Chanel made its runway debut. The mood was somber, yet jovial at the same time, a celebration of the iconic designer and his incredible work at Chanel.
The collection was chock-full of Lagerfeld signatures, including an intricate Minaudière, which matched its distinct winter theme. The Gondola Minaudière would go on to be one of the most coveted (and also his last) of Lagerfeld’s designs for Chanel.
Chanel Bird Cage Minaudière – Metiers d’Art 2020
When Virginie Viard first took over the helm of Chanel following Lagerfeld’s death in 2019, it took a minute for the brand to get back into its groove, but eventually, fans saw a return to the brand’s fun, thematic side.
In 2020, for her first Chanel’s Metiers d’Art collection, Viard paid homage to Chanel’s earliest days, with a Paris-31 rue Cambon-themed show. Named after the now-iconic address where Coco Chanel first set up shop, the collection was an ode to Coco, and of course, included a birdcage Minaudière.
The birdcage has been a symbolic motif throughout the years, and can be traced back to a gift that Coco Chanel was given by one of her seamstresses.

Chanel Mini Van Minaudière – Cruise 2024
For Cruise 2024, Viard took Chanel on a trip to Los Angeles. Viard expertly reimagined Chanel’s historic codes by infusing the glamour of the 1920s and 30s with the energetic spirit of the 70s and 80s. The collection’s palette was bright and bold, matching the spirit of LA.
Everything was right on theme in true Chanel (and Lagerfeld) fashion—including one of Viard’s most-wanted designs, the adorable Mini Van Minaudière.
Chanel Paris-Shanghai China Doll Minaudière – Metiers d’Art 2010
Closing out strong with arguably the most-wanted Chanel novelty bag of all time, the China Doll Minaudière. Presented as part of Chanel’s pre-fall 2010 collection in Shanghai, the collection referenced both Chinese and Parisian history, infusing the two with Chanel’s heritage.
The Paris-Shanghai China Doll Minaudière remains one of the brand’s rarest, with resale prices well into the five-figure mark.

These are always so creative and fun!
Pretty, but pretty sure some of them won’t fit your phone. LOL
for sure!
It’s basically jewelry.
The rocket for me always
I always wanted the mini van, but I couldn’t justify the $25K price tag!
If cost is an issue, you’re really not the intended market. (No shade, I’m also not)
I’ve had 4 of the 5 & only have one Gondola left out of those 5. I kick myself all the time for selling so many. Especially the doll bags.
The China doll is forever my favorite. If money were no object…
Nike Air Jordan 2 Low X Nina Chanel Abney Women S Shoes White.
Chanel Flap Clutch!
I have a long necklace with the little China doll. It’s so cute!!! Was such a great collection.
