Celine Black Smooth Leather Medium Tie Tote Bag?
The concept of timeless craft remains incredibly poignant and relevant, especially as the trend towards high-quality pieces that possess a quiet elegance remains at the forefront of luxury fashion. At Celine, few bags embody that appeal like its iconic Borsa Celine Luggage Mini in pelle rossa.
The Triomphe motif is one of Celine’s most important House codes. Created by Céline Vipiana herself and inspired by the famed Parisian landmark, the Arc de Triomphe, it dates back to Celine’s earliest days. Today, it continues to represent Celine’s distinct French spirit, embodying the House’s unique codes and attention to detail.
Now, as we enter a new era of Celine, the House is returning to those storied roots, offering a rare look inside its Ateliers. To further this initiative, Celine hosted an intimate workshop in New York yesterday, giving us an exclusive look at the savoir-faire that goes into the making of its bags.
The Making of a Celine Icon
Céline Vipiana dreamed up the first leather goods collection for Celine in the 1960s. Built on the ideals of excellence, classic Parisian style, and artisanal craft, Vipiana laid the groundwork for the Celine of today.
That same commitment to craft remains at the forefront of Celine’s work, and it all happens within Celine’s Ateliers. There, modern technology meets Celine’s early ideals, and every single item reveals an unmatched attention to detail.
For the first time ever, Celine has opened up this process, and one of Celine’s master artisans gave us a look at the meticulous details that go into every Celine bag.

The Triomphe Bag, a modern interpretation of the classic Celine box bag silhouette, is the perfect representation of the attention that goes into every Celine design. Over the years, its details have evolved (like the brand as a whole), but what has remained constant is Celine’s devotion to creativity and craft.
It’s fitting that Celine chose the Triomphe to demonstrate its savoir-faire to us. The master artisan leading us through yesterday’s workshop, directly from Celine’s Florentine Atelier, performed a handful of the steps that go into crafting each bag.
Each Triomphe bag takes up to three weeks to complete, with the steps thoughtfully performed in Celine’s Ateliers, though we were walked through much of the process.
Craftspeople with multi-generational experience are the heart and soul of Celine, crafting its bags from certified materials that are carefully selected. Each Celine bag goes through the same rigorous process, encapsulating Celine’s distinctly Parisian aesthetic and storied DNA. This experience truly offered us a new appreciation for what goes into making each bag and the incredible skill that is required.

Yes. I don’t believe it
Multi-generational experience… teehee 🤭
These are marketing videos and pictures that both LVMH, Kering, and other companies release to sweeten the truth. The “artisan” bs that these fashion giants are trying to feed us is just laughable. Hermes included, btw.
I discovered Celine on a trip to Paris in 1996. Still regret selling that first bag to ‘upgrade’ to LV. It was so sentimental. Now I’m a loyal Celine fan!
While I don’t believe that all luxury bags are made in China in the same assembly line as their fake counterpart, I also don’t believe that luxury brands are putting this level of effort and craftsmanship into their bags (anymore) either. It’s painfully clear that quality has gone down while prices shoot up.
Lovely pictures though…
Yes, I see this type of craftmanship being used more for creating prototypes rather than for commercial production. FWIW, though, I really do like the Celine Classic Triomphe bag in canvas — I just wish it was available in a larger size. something like 25 or even 28 cm wide instead of 22 cm or smaller.
One thing that makes me believe Celine has real craftsmanship is that they’re able to work with natural calfskin. It’s a tricky leather more delicate and expensive than regular cowhide, and it scratches easily, so most people wouldn’t even want to buy it. Not many brands use it Hermes is one of the few I’ve seen. For me, as someone who works with leather, any brand that can handle natural calfskin properly is a sign that they really know their stuff.
The video embedded here was taken by me – I attended the workshop. Of course, I didn’t see the factory with my own eyes, but the skill of the artisan who was flown in for this workshop was incredible. I appreciate your note about the natural calfskin, as it was also expressed to us how difficult natural calfskin is to work with. They chose to demonstrate the process on that model to show the expertise that goes into each bag.
