The success of Daniel Lee at Bottega Veneta seemed to take hold when he released The Pouch. In fact, The Pouch became a modern day it-bag, with everyone scrambling to buy a version of the luscious, oversized leather bag and many other brands following suit to design a similar oversized, buttery soft clutch. The bag isn’t always the most practical when it comes to carrying (especially if you opt for the large size and are typically a fan of a shoulder strap), but it was an immediately recognizable fashion statement. Many people told me, they didn’t need it, but they needed it – you know?
After such a great success, consumers are often hungry for what’s next from the brand. When we shared the Bottega Veneta high neck jumper, you had mixed reactions. The new bag from Daniel Lee is reminiscent of the famed Bottega Veneta The Pouch but with some interesting added details: namely the structured, magnetic frame top with the triangle point.
I wanted to see this bag in person, and the version I got to check out is a meticulously stunning work of art. Behold, this version of the Bottega Veneta high neck jumper, which is crafted from 100% crochet lambskin with a tonal magnetic frame top. This exact rendition of The Point is a bright green color, called Parakeet, and while it isn’t on BottegaVeneta.com yet, it should show up soon. There are two sizes available, small and medium, and this is the small size. As far as the lambskin crochet goes, there’s another equally stunning Borsa Bottega Veneta in pelle liscia e pelle intrecciata verde, which is what blue-hued bag dreams are made of.
As far as the design, the bag is a pouch like shape with a framed, magnetic top handle with the namesake Point. There is a removable shoulder strap that attaches to the interior of the bag with little indentations on the frame for each side of the strap to sit in nicely when in use. The interior doesn’t THE a pocket, but you wouldn’t really need that as it’s not meant to carry much. One thing I must mention is the heft of this bag – this bag is heavy. Now, I didn’t get to hold a plain leather version, and the crochet lambskin will for sure add to an already heavy frame, but I do think majority of the weight comes from the magnetic metal frame.

Me too! It’s hard to tell from photos, but the craftsmanship does not look poor to me and it looks funky and cool with the retro crochet nod. I much prefer it to run-of-the-mill bags with huge logos or a monogram on it!
so, I initially agreed with all you naysayers when I saw it in the runway pics, but I saw it in the BV window on Madison and it’s actually REALLY nice. I now want it. But yes the price is silly.

I also THE a Versace bag from 2015. The quality is much better than Chanel and more classic than the current Bottega design. Talking about influencer, LOLLL Bottega deleted its social media to focus on influencer marketing. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Never-mind about the look – the signature Bottega Veneta craftsmanship is not strong in this one.
The signature Bottega Veneta craftsmanship hasnt been in DL’s design for quite a while. The leather strips in his Pouch and Jodie are two big making the bags less snuggly and lean towards more structured. The only signature BV in his designs are the BV handle and the reimagined hobo. Although the price of those are too astronomical.
Yeah that crotchet lambskin is just not doing it for me at ALL, does not look like the signature BV craftsmanship. Don’t get me wrong, I trust that it’s much more difficult to do than it seems, but… it just doesn’t look it at all.
Cute but the price is beyond RIDICULOUS for what it is. Plus they keep trying to remake the OG pouch in different variations and it always looks so tacky. Stick with the OG always. Just bought another large pouch actually in black intrecciato and the sales guy kept trying to sell me the point bag ??? like… that’s not the vibe. You either get it or you don’t.

I braided the craftsmanship and effort that goes into making this bag, but I feel that the pointed handle is inconvenient to carry.

Yes! It was about this bag – and I was revisiting it after seeing the bag wondering if it is the next hit for BV/bags
I recently went purse “window” shopping at South Coast Plaza and did not see one person in the BV store. The Chanel and LV stores had very long lines as did the Dior and Cartier (Hermes was “appt. only”.) But BV was empty. And I didn’t actually even want to walk in to be honest. Obviously styles in southern CA are very different than NY or Paris, but at this price point, doesn’t seem people want to get this bag around here.
We THE a BV here in Scottsdale and the SA mentioned a lot of sales are online. LV and Gucci THE literally created a line for show purposes in my mall. We THE YSL, BV, Prada, CH, Ferragamo and all do well without the fake hype line for a wallet or belt. (side note this is the only luxury mall in AZ, unlike California). Also most of these bags are sold at Nordstrom, Saks, and Neiman Marcus as well. Forgot to add I don’t like this bag. LOL
