Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2023
Balenciaga is giving us a look at its Pre-Fall 2023 collection in a series of fitting room selfies because, after all, models, they’re just like us! The collection is what’s to be expected from Balenciaga, striped down and showcased in a relaxed setting. Models don lots of dark hues, oversized statement pieces, leather, baggy denim, and of course, massive sunglasses. There were a variety of bags showcased in the selfies, too, from new iterations of the Hourglass and the Le Cagole to new large, oversized silhouettes.
The Hourglass, Revived
The Hourglass appears in cool new metal iterations, which play off of the bag’s structured, angular shape. Meanwhile, models wore the brand’s latest bag, the BB Soft Bag, in a few different variations. The BB Soft plays off of the pillow bag trend but is less padded than what we’ve seen from other Houses. Not defending Balenciaga, I haven’t cared for their direction for some time now, but what I interpreted from that controversial campaign is that people do things that are questionable, bad and wrong for power and money. That’s the dark and sad reality we’ve been living in for a long time now right? And unless something catastrophic happens and the world ends today or tomorrow, nothing’s really going to change, not in this lifetime. Even with this campaign, with the fitting room selfies, it’s like looking in the mirror, we’re slaves to fashion, to capitalism, sadly to the world we created. Buy the bag, buy the shoes, take that selfie, anything for that dopamine hit. Sorry for the bleak outlook.
