Wolfgang Pijawetz

An old wooden dam on the Mürz near Kindberg was only about 150m away from my parent's house. (Friends say that the Mürz was "built" right in front of my front door.) My father, Fred, oversaw the fishing in this part of the river and, from early on, I accompanied him while he was fly fishing. Evenings with rising fish at the old dam remain unforgettable.

I learned from my father and guests and had my first fly-fishing experience with a specially shortened (for me) fly rod at the tender age of 6. Since then, I have honed my skills in various fly fishing and tying techniques. To this day, I remain fascinated by fly fishing and its variety. Our surrounding waters generated little interest on my part in spinning or other fishing methods.

I learned to recognize and correct errors by observing many fly fishers. Very early, I wondered about variations in fishing success of our guests. Pragmatic personal experience, learning from nature and from many years on the water, has changed and developed my casting style. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with guests. Being outdoors remains interesting as you can always learn something new. Since childhood, I have trained myself to spot individual fish or their potential locations and to use barbless hooks.

Fully natural, crystal clear, and difficult-to-fish mountain streams and rivers are my passion. Responsible behaviour is very important for me. The Mariazell area with the Salza and the Mürz Rivers provides an extraordinary environment to indulge in fly fishing and to help protect my favorite fish, the grayling. At the same time, I try to provide our international guests a special experience during exciting trips into the outdoors.

My hope is that our fly-fishing waters will be preserved in their current state. It is important to me to help ensure their preservation so that later generations can continue to enjoy fly fishing.

Yours,
Wolfgang
