Each successive season, designers dive into the adidas archives, revamping catalog silhouettes modern spins and new materials as a part of the Spezial program. This year, a few familiar models that have featured in SPZLs past and some brand new hybrid formulations are on tap for SS24.
Leading the pack, the adidas Gazelle Spezial gets two new opposing colorways, one clad in cream and white with shimmering gold accents, the other reversing course entirely for an all-black proposition. As compared to mainline releases, the overall profile of the silhouette is decreased, with a trimmed down collar and tongue reducing their height dramatically. Importantly, the Gazelle Spezial already got its debut in December as a special singular release, there dressed in green and white.
Two archival silhouettes are modified here as well, with the adidas Handball refracted into a “Pro” edition. The familiar composition of that model remains, the main addition some suede segments layering over top. Additionally, the Wensley Spezial reappears after last surfacing as part of the SS17 slate, still wearing shaggy suede across the lace stays, mudguard and heel counter.
Last but not least, two brand new models are included here. The adidas Moston Super is a new formulation that pulls inspiration from the Three Stripes’ 1970s designs, with Spezial contributor @Diggerdas2 citing the adidas Arctic as a touchpoint. Along similar lines, the Whitworth SPZL refracts designs like the Quesence, Trezoid and Clipper, the lattermost of which imparts its End-down grey palette atop a vintage midsole.
The entirety of the adidas Spezial SS24 collection is set to launch on the CONFIRMED app April 4th, with select retailers likely receiving stock behind. You can find a full gallery of every included style just ahead.
