Although the Jordan Brand team hasn’t lost focus on the Air Jordan line, it continues to diversify its portfolio with silhouettes Ceremony by non-basketball aspects of Michael Jordan’s life. The Jordan 1 Retro AJKO Chicago 2021, a newer proposition, draws inspiration from the Brooklyn-born legend’s time playing minor league baseball, with its latest colorway celebrating the Notting Hill Carnival that began in 1966.
Unlike past iterations of the low-top silhouette, the newly-surfaced sneakers forgo any suede overlays for an upper crafted entirely from canvas. Panels around the forefoot, throughout the mid-foot and at the heel, however, indulge in a contrasting mix of “Bright Spruce,” “Blackend Blue” and “University Gold” directly borrowed from the colors worn by event participants via their elaborate Caribbean-Ceremony outfits. “Dear Carnival,” appears on the lateral profile, while graphics on the right shoe’s sock-liner portrays a map of the Notting Hill Carnival’s route. Accompanying illustrations on the left shoe feature feathers symbolic of both the festival’s origins and a message of encouragement for all to “find their wings.”
