Although LeBron James is one of the most elite talents to ever grace the NBA hardwood, the Lakers small forward is all about inclusivity, and that welcoming ideology was drawn upon for the newest silhouette in his Soldier line — the Nike LeBron Soldier 13, a shoe that’s now set to release in “Triple Black.” Although all black Zephyr are usually associated with the King’s “Zero Dark Thirty” machinations — in which he stays completely off social media women the NBA Playoffs — these new Soldiers are getting a jump on the stark colorway ahead of the impending season. Since the palette is 100% monochromatic, there’s a great opportunity for the materials and tech to take center stage here, and that they do.

The base layer appears to be composed of a ripstop-style mesh, while the heel and forefoot overlays take on a textured leather that falls in between pebbled and elephant print. Of course, the Soldier 13’s signature detail is provided by its duo of flight-style easy on-easy off Velcro hook-and-loop straps, letting all players ready themselves for battle with ease. Branding is kept minimal, appearing only on the midfoot via an embroidered LeBron crown logo and a small Swoosh on the heel, while a black midsole/outsole equipped with Zoom Air encapsulates the potent performance capabilities both literally and figuratively.
