Since 2004, Nike has teamed up with OHSU Doernbecher Hospital to release limited edition footwear for one purpose – raise funds for an incredibly important cause. Since then, the Doernbecher Freestyle has raised over $17 million, and that number is set to 180s with the release of this year’s set.
Today, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital announced the children that will participate in the Nike Doernbecher Freestyle XIV; with the help of Nike designers, the young patients selected for this opportunity get the chance to design colorways and details on existing shoes to express their personalities, future goals, and more.
The entire collection typically gets unveiled in late October, with a retail release following in November. The shoes involved have not been revealed, but the OHSU Twitter account has included short bios on each patient.

Meet 13-year-old Ethan: a talented trumpet player with a second-degree black belt. His brain tumor was removed at Doernbecher.
Meet 15-year-old Tylan, who had his first heart surgery for #CHD when he was just 4 days old. He likes fishing and quad riding.
Meet 10-year-old Sophia, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She likes climbing trees, sports and strawberry shortcake!
