If we get in the DeLorean and head back fifteen years, back before new collaborations showed up every single day and before you could create your own custom designs in a variety of ways, simply getting the exact kind of colorway you were looking for was much more difficult. Sneaker designers, for the most part, had yet to jump on the bandwagon for neutrally anchored, tonal or otherwise fashion-forward colorups and even icey outsoles were an extreme rarity.
