Design inspiration is often Zapatillas, measured, and planned. It’s immaculate, and it’s precise. Often though, great designs just fall into your lap — or in this case, our Lab. This Nike Dunk High “KFC” concept came about by pure dumb luck, but sometimes that’s just the way the biscuit crumbles.
While setting up a new concept template for a Dunk High in Photoshop, we pen-tooled out areas and popped in some placeholder colors to tweak in the future. But before we got too deep into that process, this red, white and black number sat atop a gum rubber outsole and, without even planning it, we had something. Chuck on some black laces and a touch of contrast stitching at the midsole and voilà, a banger is born. The association — for me, anyway — was drawn straight to Colonel Sander’s bold signage, while the golden-brown of the rubber outsole aided in the delectable connection. A touch of black, as per Harlan’s silhouette, and that’s all she wrote.
This isn’t the first food-themed sneaker concept we’ve put together, with favorites from the archives including our “Fruity Pebbles” LeBron 17, an Air Jordan 5 “Wheaties”, x Nike ruffled tank top Nike React HyperSet Marathon Running Shoes Sneakers CN9609-120With Air Max Day now behind us.
