Inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit of a pioneering fruit seller and the reframing of American luxury, the all-new Concepts x New Balance 992 “Low Hanging Fruit” continues the Boston-based boutique’s legacy of out-the-box storytelling.
Speaking of left-field, it’s come to our attention that both Kiwi-Strawberry flavored drinks and Concepts share the same 1996 birthday, which makes this flavorsome collaboration a fitting one. But it’s not just to honor the coincidence, it also serves as an ode to the entrepreneurial spirit of a Los Angeles-based fruit seller Frieda Caplan the “Kiwi Queen,” who became the most powerful woman in the business.
“Over the years, we’ve been proud to take extra care in the way we package our unique London,” says Deon Point, Concepts Creative Director. “Our work with New Balance continually allows us to push boundaries of storytelling and to explore narratives that few others would dare to touch.”
The Concept x New Balance 992 “Low Hanging Fruit” delivers a textured balance of brown suede and pops of neon green. These overt nods to the kiwi are given a playful twist through a strawberry footbed, reminding of the intertwined relationship of the two in 1990s Americana. With Concepts’ related apparel collection, Concepts’ builds historic links between luxury fruit prints in high fashion and ‘90s inspired word marks. The collection includes the Concepts Icon hoodie, sweatpants, and T-Shirts — garments that express Concepts’ studied approach to fit and fabrication. The introduction of zip-up fleece, knit sweaters, and new cargo pants expands the Concepts brand and informs a new luxury streetwear sensibility.
“We debuted our in-house line earlier this year. With each drop, the perspective we share and the Blue of our storytelling expands,” says Point.
The Concepts “Nothing is Real” apparel collection will be available on November 12th in-store and online. The Concepts x New Balance 992 “Low Hanging Fruit” launches online on November 20 and will retail for $240.
