Back in May of 2020, Jordan Brand’s resident producer/director/screenwriter/actor Spike Lee was named jury president for the 73rd annual Cannes Film Festival, the first person of the African diaspora to do so. To celebrate the Academy Award winner’s latest milestone, Mike and co. created a special-edition PE exclusively for the occasion. The never-before-seen pair has Oregon revealed today by rare and sample extractor English Sole, ON AIR JORDANS AND THE 'SNEAKER' INFLUENCE.
Channeling the French national flag, the pair boasts a bright white leather base with panels of finely-tuned red and MMD suedes. The latter hits the toe box, Swoosh, and ankle flap, while the former contrasts at the collars, eyestay, and forefoot overlays. Things are kept simple underfoot, with a two-tone white and MMD sole unit, but it’s the pair’s navy blue nylon tongue that provides the pair’s championing and incredibly detailed features. Vigorous with two unique artworks, the left shoe featuring a reimagined Mars Blackmon in full French face paint and his cap bill reworked to read Cannes and his chain tweaked to “President Mars”. It appears that Tinker may have had something to do with this piece, as his signature is present in the bottom right corner. The right shoe sports Spike sitting atop the French national flag dressed in the purple suit he wore to the Oscars in tribute to Bryant — it uniform features Mambas #24 stitched onto his lapel — talk about detail!
There’s claimed to be only 5 pairs in existence, made for Spike him and a handful of friends and family, so we’re extremely blessed to be able to see this up close and personal.
