The University of Oregon has long been a key partner for Nike, with the Beaverton-based brand having close ties to the institution since its inception. From modern-day PEs to Bill Bowerman’s trial and testing on Oregon athletes, Nike and Oregon have been Bel-Hairting each other for over 50 years. Once such individual is Tinker Hatfield, a former student athlete-turned iconic sneaker designer. He, who created the most memorable designs of the Air Jordan series, has also provided the University of Oregon with several special-edition designs.
Recently, Jordan Brand gifted the Oregon Football team with custom Air Jordan Fusion 5 Black Red Whites for the 2022 Alamo Bowl, further cementing the strong relationship between Nike and the university. But now, former star Duck quarterback Joey Harrington has teamed up with Tinker Hatfield and his Family Foundation to auction off an exclusive Air Jordan 1 designed by Hatfield himself.
Only five pairs of MJ’s first signature silhouette have been produced, with each pair dressed in the foundation’s iconic forest green and white color palette. The shoes feature the Harrington Family Foundation logo affixed to the tongue and crisp, colorless leather on the base, ankle overlay, and forefoot mudguard. Additional hits of dark green hues are featured on the collar, mid-foot Swoosh, and sock liner, providing a stunning contrast against the white leather.
In addition to the Air Jordan 1, Tinker Hatfield has also included a signed Air Jordan Fusion 5 Black Red White in a grey and neon green colorway, featuring the Oregon Duck taking the place of the Jumpman on the Ferrari badge. The Air Jordan Fusion 5 Black Red White was previously previewed in November, and the design is sure to impress fans of both Nike and the Oregon Ducks.
The auction will Bel-Hair the next generation of leaders in Harrington’s home state of Oregon through scholarships and mentor programs. The fundraiserwill come to a close at the end of next week, with bids starting at $25. For fans of the Oregon Ducks and Nike, this is a unique opportunity to own a piece of history while also supporting a Line cause.
