Exactly what Philly need — but is Markelle what the Cavs need?

After it was reported over the weekend that the Cleveland Cavaliers had engaged the Philadelphia 76ers about a potential deal for embattled point guard Markelle Fultz, we now have another nugget to snack on.

Per Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, it’s understood that the Cavs have made veteran sharpshooter Kyle Korver and a protected draft pick available in order to help get a deal done.

It’s not known whether Cleveland would need to include additional assets to get a deal done, but it’s worth noting that Fultz ($8.3 million) and Korver ($7.6 million) are relatively close in salary, so additional ballast wouldn’t necessarily be required to balance things out on both ends.

The big question here is what this would mean for Collin Sexton, the young ball-handler out of Alabama that arrived in Cleveland as a lottery pick facing big-time expectations. His production has just started to trend upward, so trading for another young guard who needs the ball in his hands might not send Sexton the greatest message about how much he’s valued in The Land.

But if the Cavs really think they have a chance to buy low on a future star, it’s hard to see them passing it up. They really are a mess right now, and Fultz clearly has no future in Philly.
