In an intimate conversation, the two legends shared their thoughts, ideas, and feelings on the iconic silhouette, even delving deep into the details of their respective lives: Mitsui talked about his designing of his magnum opus and Kunii went on to recall the early makings of his now long-running career. With all that being said the two settled on their most common attribute, their nationality, by paying homage to the Land of the Rising Sun. From the profile, the circular red toe blocking resembles that of the nation’s flag, while and all-white vamp and heel continue it. The iconic Tiger stripes on the lateral remain tonal, while the medial side introduces reds and light blues. Aside from the pair’s unique color blocking, it does arrive with a few material makeovers and retoolings, including quilted collars, the addition of zipper to the split tongues, and eel pulls in the rear. “FAR EAST” etched under the outsole once again champions the patriotic themes, while a more personal touch is used to complete the designs: the last name’s of both partners are printed on the interior to further establish the colorway as a person-to-person project.
