As we approach the annual Spring celebration, the sneaker brands that celebrate Asia’s festival season will begin to pepper footsites with celebratory releases. The latest notable pair to appear amongst a sea of themed releases is this colorful adidas Ultra BOOST S&L DNA, which boasts a stand-out white-based upper in a sea of black and red options for the Lunar New Year.

Though it’s not identifiably Chinese New Year in nature, it’s colorful prints and bold red branding may well indicate its intentions to celebrate Japan’s Setsubun festival. Otherwise known as the bean-throwing festival, Setsubun literally restock to “Seasonal Division,” referring to its celebration on the final day of Winter.
